Oxygen DCT has supplied a pair of LCD Super Rack Series HD monitors to Camsat, a Cardiff-based company that offers HD/SD satellite transmission and news gathering services to larger broadcasters.

Camsat’s HD/SD up-link vehicle has a fully tracking 1.8m Advent dish and facilities for multi camera live transmission, recording, editing and satellite transmission. Originally, the plan for the truck was to stay single path SD, but Tudor Ellis changed his mind after negotiating an equipment deal that made a fully redundant and dual path SD/HD truck a viable proposition. “At this point, with most of my base band being SD, Oxygen DCT came to the rescue by offering me a very attractive pair of Dual 9" HD monitors, with inbuilt scopes and de-embedded audio,” Ellis says. “These are my main quality monitoring for the Base B and. They were incredibly easy to install and have proved to be extremely flexible in operation, especially with the menu options allowing on screen titles, 8 channels of de-embedded audio and waveform and vector scopes built in to the screen. All these facilities can be switched off via a couple of buttons on the front panel when they are not required.

Addressing user feedback, these LCD Super Racks are the first to incorporate such an impressive array of innovative features. They set the standards with wide viewing angles and super-sharp pictures with up to 16.7 million colours, giving sparkling next-generation performance. Traditionally, LCD racks are used just for detecting picture content but now with LCD Super Racks super picture monitoring, they can also be used for quality assessment. The inclusion of a waveform monitor, vector display and audio meters enables users to check signal content and levels, negating the need for separate monitoring and therefore reducing installation costs.

Whilst the 3.5" and 4.3" quad monitors share many audio features in common, the 5.7" and above have internal speakers for monitoring either de-embedded audio or separate external stereo audio inputs. The de-embedders extract any two of the 16 available channels of embedded audio whilst the meters are user-adjustable for size, position, levels and PPM or VU metering. The audio can also be monitored on the internal speakers, the headphone socket or external speakers on the ORMS models.

Oxygen DCTs Super Racks are available with just composite inputs, composite and SDI or composite, SDI and HD inputs. The input signal circuit automatically detects the signal format and displays the picture correctly at the appropriate aspect ratio. This facility means that SD signal users who are planning to 'go HD' can install a display today that is pre-equipped, enabling them to immediately monitor HD when they upgrade their installation. Many post houses edit both SD and HD material and benefit from these versatile monitors that are low cost and can handle all their requirements.
